Our Kobler Family Vineyard Viognier is extremely dynamic, full of flavor, with an energetic palate. Apricot, citrus rind, jasmine, and lavender make for an enticing nose from this white Rhône-style wine. Chill this wine for 15-20 minutes and enjoy with an equally as refreshing and flavorful treat, like a cheese platter, chicken salad, or herbal focaccia bread with salted butter and honey.Visit Our Store
Everything about the Kobler Family Vineyard Viognier is unique. When the Kobler brothers decided to plant Viognier (and Syrah) in Sonoma decades ago, they were making a bold choice. Rhône varietals were not common in Northern California, and they’re still not widely grown. We are truly blessed to have this six-tenths of an acre Viognier block planted next to some of our favorite Syrah.
Viognier can be a tricky one in the field. It’s prone to shatter, and sunburn, and can ripen quickly if you don’t keep an eye on it. Every year we look to our vineyard practices and ask ourselves how we can do things better. Starting with the 2020 vintage, we modified the canopy from a spur-pruned vertical shoot positioning to a cane-pruned split canopy. The fruit now sits in the center of the canopy protected on either side by dappled sunlight.
The Kobler Family Vineyard Viognier comes from a very small parcel of Viognier planted at Kobler Vineyard, which benefits from cool temperatures, fog, and afternoon breezes.
Native-yeast fermentation followed by 10 months élevage in 100% neutral French oak.
