This is one of the best 2011 wines I have had, certainly the best 2011 at Donelan. For me, this is the sweet spot for a wine. Thereâs still some fruit left, but youâre getting more notes like dusty library book leather. The tannin is silky and sublime. There is the trademark Obsidian sweet bacon fat and sweet gun oil, buttressed by ample fruit like dark cherry and mulberry. What a pleasure to drink. I had this with local grass-fed hangar steaks, and the wine still had enough body to stand up to the meat. The nose has beautiful bouquet garni: sage, underbrush, sweet ragweed. The silky tannin is so subtle and is in a milk chocolate realm. The finish is 30 seconds.

This smells great. Tinge of noble reduction with parmesan cheese. A little bit of struck matchstick. White currant and mint. Owing to the cool nature of the vintage, the fresh, bright acidity gives the wine quite a bit of energy. Very lifted.
