Obsidian Vineyard after Tubbs Fire

The 2017 Tubbs Fire

Donelan Family Wines would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all emergency service personnel who have been working tirelessly to keep our people, homes, businesses and vineyards safe from the Tubbs Fire. We are deeply saddened by the loss of life in our community, but we are thankful to report that our staff and families are safe.

The fires that have blazed for more than a week now in Mendocino, Napa and Sonoma counties, have had a major impact on our operations. We have had intermittent access to the winery due to our Coffey Park location of Santa Rosa. However, all of our fruit had been picked prior to the fires and we hooked up a generator on October 11th, so that we could continue our work in the cellar.

However, it is with great sadness that we report on our estate property — the Obsidian Vineyard in Knights Valley — sustained damages from the Tubbs Fire on October 9th. The 2017 vintage of Obsidian Syrah is intact but the future of the vineyard is unclear at this time. We will keep you informed as more information becomes available and when we’re able to open our winery and tasting room for visitation.

Many of you have asked how to help; as it is in harrowing times like these when a sense of community is the most strongly felt and needed, whether it be your local community or the broader wine loving community.

We strongly support two organizations that have been instrumental in our communities recovery: the Sonoma County Resilience Fund and the United Way of Wine CountryAny donation made to them is greatly needed and appreciated.

This past month’s events will have long-term effects on wine country. The best way to provide ongoing support is to continue to buy Sonoma wines at restaurants, your favorite local retailer, and directly through winery’s websites. Additionally, the true value of Sonoma County lies in the hearts of the people who live and work here, not just the grapes and the vineyards. Please continue to visit and support the communities and wineries we love so much.

Once again, we thank you for your support during this time. We will prevail and could not be #Sonomastrong without you!
