Vineyard Notes:
This sandy site is tucked away in a bowl formed by 3 small hills often creating a wine with silky texture and the bowl seems to provide enough stillness and warmth to ripen the Syrah into a sweet-fruited beauty accented with savory spice. The 2007 Walker Vine Hill is no exception. In fact 2007 produced wines of great character, but also with more refinement and seamlessness than this vineyard has witnessed previously.
Tasting Note:
Are there really enough characters to deconstruct this wine? Perhaps, but the aromas of raspberry licorice, cassis, smoked meat and flint are simply the beginning of an engaging wine whose character was certainly enhanced with increased stem inclusion. The palate and texture are broad, succulent, and mouthwatering. Perhaps more firmly built with acidity than past versions the Walker Vine Hill wine has wonderful purity, intensity, and softness. |
