93% Roussanne and 7% Viognier. The Roussanne wine comes from the cool Dry Stack Vineyard in Bennett Valley. One of our slowest and latest ripening vineyards, this wine consistently produces full flavored wine at low alcohols rare to California wines. 2008 was no exception, though it was an exceptional vintage. A long even ripening period from mid-September through October without any rain allowed both flavor and physiological maturity to occur in concert (at times a challenge in this site). While many vintages of Venus see more Viognier, the 2008 Roussanne was worthy enough to stand virtually alone to provide a delightful Rhone-inspired white blend.
How do you describe a wine like the 2008 Venus? Certainly I could list off a number of archetypical flavors of Roussanne wine: beeswax, lily, lychee, anise and peach. But what is the wine’s essence – isn’t that what excites us the most? This wine is the essence of prettiness. It is an attractive flower standing tall in a vase; accenting and improving the presentation and beauty of a table. It is a joy to behold, to drink, and leaves one feeling just as the wine finishes: fresh! |
