The Cuvee Moriah is a blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah and fermented 60% whole cluster. All the Grenache was sourced from Dry Stack Vineyard in Bennett Valley. While harvested earlier than previous vintages, which has enhanced spice characters to balance the lovely Grenache fruitiness, the wine has lost nothing in terms of depth. The mouth feel maintains a firmness and suppleness not seen in previous vintages.
The barrels of Syrah, sourced from a number of different sites, were selected specifically to add a bit of depth and length all the while preserving the wonderful Grenache character from Dry Stack Vineyard. Deconstructing the wine into different flavors and components is difficult, primarily because of its complexity, but also because of the evolution that seems to occur in glass. Fresh cherries and raspberries? Sure. Savory elements such as fennel and oregano? Perhaps. A delicious wine that begs to be accompanied with equally delicious food? Absolutely!
