Donelan: Wine is a Jourey Not a Destination 2009 Cuvée Christine Syrah 2009 Cuvée Christine Syrah

We have created Cuvée Christine with the sweet, refined nature of Syrah in mind. In contrast to the Cuvée Keltie, it is aged for a shorter period (14 months), has less whole cluster (40%), and some new oak (versus no new oak in Keltie). Approached with uncompromising quality in mind, barrels are selected and trial blends begin in early spring and last until bottling; ensuring that only the best-matched components reach the final blend. 100% Syrah from 4 different vineyards, the 2009 vintage provided the opportunity to produce a blended Syrah of tremendous character and balance. The moderate ripening conditions – read cool – along with limited spring rains made for very concentrated mature fruit.

2009 Cuvée Christine presents a seamless and supple side of Syrah. The wine is built around hilltop Syrah from Windsor Oaks Vineyard, which is complemented with specifically selected barrels of our other sources such as Obsidian, Kobler, and Walker Vine Hill. I love the aromatics of the wine, which seem quintessential Syrah with meaty, fruity, and spicy notes layered together. We are also proud of its balanced, firm mouth feel that inspires another sip and another glass…and dare we say another bottle. Please drink with a happy heart.
