This Just In: High Praise from The Wine Advocate and Robert Parker
In the most recent issue of The Wine Advocate, Robert Parker spoke highly of our 2013 and 2014 wines and we wanted to summarize his comments for your perusal here.
It can be so gratifying to feel as though our wines convey what we want them to. In blending trials and team tastings – whether official ones or just Friday afternoon barrel room tastings – we get to be off-the-cuff as we brainstorm the evolving wines. How they smell, taste, feel; what they remind us of, what ideas they give us, memories they inspire. We throw descriptors around like “tapenade” and “cassis” and “charcoal,” just like words you see here in Robert Parker’s tastings notes. So when we – the producers – hear our own thoughts echoed back to us by our audience of friends, customers and critics, it feels like a hand has reached out from the crowd and touched ours. It’s moving and it never gets old. So have a crack at these wines yourselves – get in touch while the limited amounts remaining of our Winter Release are still available, get excited for the upcoming Spring Release and those to follow, and hunt down those notes of olive and blackberry and rosewater that we love. If you find them – great! If you find something else – even better. Join us on the journey!
Current 2015 Winter Release:
2014 Venus – 93 points
2014 Kobler Family Vineyard Viognier – 95 points
2013 Cuvee Moriah – 93 points
2013 Kobler Family Vineyard Syrah – 94 points
2013 Walker Vine Hill Vineyard Syrah – 96 points
2012 Richards Family Vineyard Syrah – 96+ points
Parker writes: “The extended [barrel] aging seems to calm down this wine, which has incredible density of fruit, mostly blackberry, blueberry and cassis, a brooding smell of subtle barbecue smoke and charcoal, full-bodied opulence, and a terrific finish with great density. This is a stunner and one of the superstars of a great lineup of wines.”
2013 Obsidian Vineyard – 99 points
Parker writes: “The 2013 Syrah Obsidian Vineyard is truly magical… Terrific fruit intensity, a full-bodied, sumptuous texture, and a long finish of close to 50 seconds make for a magnificent Syrah to drink over the next two decades.”

2016 Spring Release – March 22nd:
2014 Genevieve’s Block Chardonnay – 96 points
2013 Two Brothers Pinot Noir – 90 points
2013 Tripp’s Block Pinot Noir – 91 points
2013 Cuvee Keltie Syrah 97 – points
Parker writes: “Terrific aromatics of black olive tapenade, sweet blackberry and cassis, licorice, truffle and spice all jump from the glass of this full-bodied, tightly structured, spicy and very layered wine that builds incrementally and finishes with extravagant richness and rather big structure. Forget it for 2-3 years and drink it over the following 15-20.”
2016 Fall Release (August/September):
2014 Nancie Chardonnay – 94 points
2013 Cuvee Christine – 96 points
