2013 Cuvée KeltieAllocated Syrah
Cuvée Keltie is a culmination of individual vineyard blocks and thoughtful cellar care, producing an exceptional Syrah blend that continues to captivate us year after year. It isn’t one single site that makes Keltie so appealing, nor one particular cellar practice that illuminates the personality of this Cuvée. Like a mythical creature with the wits of a human and the strength, speed, and grace of an animal, the wine draws its power and identity from its multiple origins.
The 2013 Cuvée Keltie is built around three single-vineyard wines: Walker Vine Hill, Obsidian, and Richards. Together they produce a wine that is hedonistic, but also agile and structured. The wine opens on the nose with black cherry, mole sauce, and dried rose petals. A velvety texture on the palate is framed with a balance of acid and tannin. Fermented with nearly 100% whole cluster and aged for 20 months in neutral barrels and 9 months in bottle prior to release, 2013 Cuvée Keltie showcases our desire to deliver a wine that is not only well built, but incredibly intoxicating.
2012 Cuvée KeltieTasting Notes
The beauty of our proprietary blends is the sense that they exist as working pieces of music. With time and performance, new interpretations take hold, adding to each blend’s identity and complexity with greater clarity and satisfaction with each passing year. The 2012 vintage provides Keltie with ample structure to support its notably rustic nature, enhanced by traditional winemaking methods. As in years past, the selection of blocks from Obsidian, Walker Vine Hill, Richards and Steiner Ranch Vineyards create a robust and dense Syrah with unsurpassed agility and unity. A wine that is uniquely Keltie, the blend’s legacy is of harmony between each barrel, as if Cuvee Keltie were a place, with its own unique soil and microclimate, a fantasy of thought-provoking Syrah.

The 2011 has alluring texture and structure, with fresh aromas of dried cherry, rhubarb, and blueberry preserves which have increased with time in bottle. In the glass, Keltie reveals notes of crispy pancetta, stewed nettles, and dark-chocolate with smoked sea salt. These flavors persist with the precise pulse of a finely-tuned instrument, producing a serious wine that captivates our senses and our minds. The cooler vintage has resulted in a wine that is elegant and approachable even in its youth.

Cuvée Keltie is created with a focus on tradition, barrel selection, and the savory elements known to Syrah. Its key ingredient is one of our core winemaking values: patience. As the potential barrels evolve over a two-year period, we frequently revisit this blend to ensure we are producing an inimitable wine that delivers purity, definition, and wonderful pleasure. We believe this diligence and patience has been rewarded as we present the 2008 Donelan Cuvée Keltie. Sourced from 5 cool vineyards, primarily fermented 100% whole cluster, and aged in a limited amount of new oak, we selected only 9 barrels that express a complete offering of Syrah’s potential. The nose is a wonderful blend of savory and rich fruit aromas combining cedar and white pepper with dark dried fruits and black cherry. While rustic elements in the mouth feel are decidedly Cuvée Keltie and consistent with the whole cluster fermentation, there is also silkiness, incredible depth, and balance on the palate. This wine is a bit showy, an aromatic and textural feast, enjoy with a similarly described meal!
